Eradicate Polio Programme

District Governor Paul Hutchinson, has challenged all the Rotary Clubs within his region to raise $ 3000 each towards Rotary Foundation designated programme of Eradication of Polio worldwide.   The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have offered to equal the same sum raised by Rotary Foundation in this cause.   In many parts of the world Polio is already eradicated, and when within the remaining 4 countries, polio is eradicated, the world will be Polio Free. 

Galway Salthill Rotary Club, decided upon a fund raiser  by running a Sunday Brunch locally.  Tickets at €10 each were pre-sold by Rotary Club members to their families and friends.  All food stuffs were secured from various sponsors who provided generously.   A suitable venue at  favourable rates was secured, and an on the day rugby match result forecast was sold to those present.   The event was a good financial success, and after all outgoings, Galway Salthill Rotary Club raised in excess of the $3000 target. 

A local Primary School in Oranmore, held a “No uniform Day”, which raised an additional and unexpected €414 towards the programme.   We are grateful to Scoil Iosaf Naofa ( Boys School ) Oranmore for their generousity.  A cheque for $3000 has been forwarded to Rotary Foundation for this cause.
